Slo-Mo... No Get-up-and-Go.

Sun-Mon, Oct 8-9

Two quiet days.  Checking yesterday for an LDS church nearby, I was pleasantly surprised to find one right here in White Rock. No need to trek up to Los Alamos. I was really surprised this morning to find the church packed. This is one of the largest wards I’ve visited (and there are 2 more in Los Al). Tons of kids!
The rest of the day was football (we watched the Cowboys-Packers game, which was super, and kept track of the Seahawks score on my phone), walks (I’m really trying to get 5 mi/day while we’re here), a re-match round of gin rummy (I beat Greg last night; he trounced me today), and a little visiting with neighbors. This parking lot is actually a great camping spot for a lot of reasons, but social interaction is not one of them and Greg really misses that. Greg also fiddled with the MH radio for a couple hours (and then searched online at least another hour for a replacement).

Today hasn't been much different. Greg fiddled around w/ the indicator for the leveling jacks but ended up getting nowhere. (I think it was a minor issue - nothing we really need to worry about.) I logged 5.5 miles, about half of it into a stiff wind. I'm finally halfway through Exodus, but it's been a slow read. I've promised myself the next book will be light
Wed we leave for the Elks Club in Albuquerque. Camping there will be a crap shoot. It's first come/first served, and we arrive in the middle of Balloon Fiesta. (We couldn’t make reservations anywhere else, though,  b/c real campgrounds have been booked for months. 😊)

BlogThought...  The picture below, taken from the highway, is of the area just next to the general visitor parking lot. The concrete structure channels rain run-off. You can also see a natural flow path moving toward the foreground. Since we've been in NM especially, I've become acutely aware of the dangers incurred with flash flooding. Every corner curb has a run-off, and I've seen lots of concrete arroyos that keep water off the streets or out of parking lots. i also remember a sudden heavy rain way back when we were leaving California and how quickly the approaching intersection filled with water.

Postscripts... Today is officially Columbus Day, but folks in Santa Fe now celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day instead. I think that makes a lot of sense, especially here where cultures have blended for hundreds of years.
And, for what it's worth, I've now seen license plates from 40 states right here in this little parking lot. I think that's pretty impressive.

(Yup, even Hawaii)

😃 It's 8:17pm, Oct 9, and the blog is totally up-to-date. A minor miracle has occurred.
