We Wander White Rock

Saturday , Oct 7…

Quiet day. Greg did a lot of MH maintenance (and I was busy with something, probably blog related). We walked over to the Pig + Fig Café/Bakery and enjoyed a wonderful lunch! My butternut squash bisque was topped w/ a sprinkling of pine nuts – perfect contrast. Greg’s pig & green chile stew had just the right amount of heat, and we split a grilled pig+fig sandwich (half an inch of thin-sliced ham, brie, sliced pear, fig jam  and a lettuce leaf – delish!). Afterwards we waddled out, (carrying a piece of choc cake boxed up for tonight) and wandered up to the White Rock Overlook. Amazing views, but – as is always the case with magnificent vistas – there’s no way for an amateur) like me to adequately capture them on a cell phone

Sun and Shadow

Rio Grand River, still muddy.

Classic NM palette: trees, rock & sky.

Below are a couple more pics taken along the walk back to the MH. I have a penchant for "foilage against sky" shots, but - like the vistas - they never, ever capture the depth of contrast and/or beauty.

I posted a cropped version of this a couple days ago, but it bears repetition.
This tree was AWESOME.

A not-so-great photo of the Green Team
Demonstration Garden on the Visitor
Center grounds. It's really quite lovely.

I needed a close up to get the branch/sky
contrast, but I also wanted the whole tree
profile. (Greed never yields success.)
Losing the extraneous background would
also help.

BlogThoughts... 1. I have yet to see the Rio Grande look remotely grand. Back in February, it was a tiny trickle in southern NM. Here it is running fast and full, but - compared to the Columbia or Mississippi - it's just another river.

2. Much of what we do is accomplished in auto-pilot mode. At least that's what I want to believe when I see something like this sign. I don't blame the road crew who installed it, but did the street namers stop to think about the irony? Surely they were working from a map. (And maybe the humor is intentional?)
