One of oh-so-many bends in the Sevier. |
Laid back morning, then on the road again, back to Leeds for a
night. In spite of “No, no, no!” messages from GPS, we elected to take scenic
SR14 -- and did just fine, even at 9900’. Before turning onto 14, though, we
followed the Sevier River for 20 or so miles. I’ve never seen a river meander so often and so randomly. Loved it! (Hwy 14 is also the road Bob took - from the other side - when
we went to Zion. It was good to revisit that landscape.)

We hosted dinner in the MH - our favorite pre-packaged BBQ accompanied by my own cole slaw and Lays potato chips. Not high end, but tasty. (Would've been perfect if we'd had some fresh corn on the cob.) We did, however, have homemade brownies, which Bob declared acceptable (though he would have preferred the edges a bit crisper). After dinner there was a serious game of Scrabble - amazing the odd new words one learns playing this game.
Saturday morning we had been pre-warned that Lena wanted all of us
to accompany her on a hike up into the hills behind the house. Saving showers
for later, we enjoyed Susan’s yummy eggs (scrambled w/ onions & red &
green peppers) and piled into their SUV for a short ride to the trail head.

Again, sun struggling to break through. |

There's the path, but Bob had a "better" way. |

Striations galore. |

Lena is everyone's best friend. |

(Junipers were beautiful too, but my pics weren't.) |
Great little hike (abt 2 miles round trip). After
cleaning up, we headed east through Snow Canyon and on to North Las Vegas. Lots
of construction along the highway approaching the Elks Club -- and even more
once we arrived (upgrading the RV area w/ new underground electrical). Stiff breeze, lots of dust. No
good walking spots. We're supposed to stay here for a month, and I am not a
happy camper. [The pic above was taken 3½ years ago. We're now parked about where the turquoise car is. Freshly dug 3' deep ditches are in front, behind, and beyond us, and the parking lot is gravel.] I grumble through the evening.
