Monday, Feb 6…
We returned to
the MH last night and then realized we’d left our “hang up” clothes in the
closet, so Greg made a quick trip back this morning. Then we were off to Rockhound
State Park, New Mexico. Interstate
10 all the way, and what a l-o-n-g (and, dare I say, desolate?) way it seemed.
Not much to look at, but we did have a little excitement when we passed thru a
dust storm. (I loved the signs – see below). It wasn’t a bad one (not much wind)
but there was still rolling dust as far as we could see on either side of the
road. Not many towns along the way, but every freeway interchange was announced
repeatedly with huge billboards featuring some supposedly irresistible item. My
favorite was the first (also below). We were not curious enough to stop. We did
stop to stretch our legs the second time and discovered a huge gift/souvenir
shop. We settled for a dollar’s worth of postcards.
Arrived at the
campground late afternoon and secured the last site with hook-ups. Dinner was
easy – leftover ham and scalloped potatoes from our visit w/ Greg’s brother.
Greg hit the sack early; I was up forever fighting with blog formatting (but
getting close to caught up again).

Entering the swirl of dust. |

Endless landscape, left and right. |

Strong wind now (see the flags). |

We passed on this one. |

Stopped here - wasn't even at the CD. |

Sunset at Rockhound. |

This is inside. Outside, only "that door" has a handle. 😃

BlogThought… We crossed the actual Continental Divide between Lordsburg and Deming. Elevation 4585 feet (and no visible rise or fall on either side).
