A greeting for everyone. |
Thursday, March 16…
The sun barely shone today, but I
still managed a couple long walks and made FB happy with another 13K+ day.
Laundry and chores done, camping spots reserved through mid-April, various odds
and ends taken care of… all good. It’s spring break for at least some parts of
Mississippi, so there are lots of families here. Kids on bikes, a few folks out
on the lake, lots of campfires… all good. Southerners are friendly – no one
walks past without a greeting. I like that.

This is maybe 1/4 of the lake area - love the floating walkway to the island. |

Kayaks... done for today. |
RandomBlogThoughts... 1. Last night was clear and
the stars were fabulous. Even though I can only name the Big Dipper, I
recognized the shapes of several others.
2.
We stopped here b/c it’s a halfway point. When I got laundry quarters from the
woman at the office, I asked what we might like to see or do in Hattiesburg
(nearest town, pop 43,000). She shrugged. “Nothing I can think of. I’d just
like to get out.” Sad.
3. Glad Cuts is
a 1-chair hair salon in Denham Springs (La) that I happened to drive by several
days after I should have gotten a haircut. I saw the sign from the highway, decided
this was a bird-in-the-hand, and made an abrupt right. A diminutive Asian stylist was finishing up a
fellow maybe in his 30s. Apparently she was trying to explain why she couldn’t
throw away last month’s calendar page. (This was early March). It was almost
stream-of-conscious and at some point she threw in a bit about how Julius
Caesar had changed the calendar. She spoke fast, with great intensity and a
fairly heavy accent. The customer looked confused. “You understand?” she asks.
He recovers. “Yeh, yeh – Edward Scissorhands…” She looks confused. I caught his eye and gave him a very short
history lesson. He paid and left. Postscript: She continued the same
explanation as soon as I got in the chair and never stopped talking. Fortunately,
the haircut itself was fine.

Sunset thru the Ameristar Casino window (Vicksburg). We had dinner there Tuesday night. |
