Travel
day – off to NOLA (New Orleans, LA) Motorsports Park, where Greg will work
corners (caution flags, etc) and I’ll be helping out in Registration and the
Trophy Circle. LA Rte 90 all the way (Garmi
can snooze). Again, water was almost always in sight – usually beside or under
us. Curious, I googled “number of Louisiana bridges.” The answer is 13,361, but
the most interesting link that appeared was 1,837 La. Bridges Deemed Structurally Deficient (Shreveport Times, 2015). Another link, "steepest bridges,” yielded some thought-provoking photos. (Not hard to see why these blogs take so
long.) Anyway, we didn’t pass through any major towns and only made one brief
stop, so I’ll just share a few photos.
Plenty of commercial maritime activity.
BlogThoughts... Fishing (including crab, shrimp & crawfish) is really important here. Whether the catch ends up on your dinner table, earns you a few bucks at the local roadside market, or is part of a huge commercial effort, seafood is an integral part of Louisiana culture. We stopped at this stand for fresh strawberries (red all the way through!) and ended up with catfish as well.
Not a great picture, but it reminds me that fresh is best.
