Saturday, March 4…
Up early – we had to report to our work stations
at 7am. Fortunately, we can “dry camp” (no hook-ups) at the track, which saves
lots of time (and $$$). I’ve been to
several tracks back when Greg was racing, but they are definitely “mom &
pop” compared to NOLA. Huge spread,
including an event center (below), storage/repair garages, gas
pumps, a 2.75-mile road-race course, and a “pro” go-kart track. Both tracks
were hosting events this weekend. Drivers for our races pay $550 per car, and
there were cars from all over the country. (This race is part of a national “tour”
of about 8 races – the next one is in Austin. These guys have money.)
Twelve-hour day, but it was fun and I got over 15,000 steps!
An appetizer/dessert buffet was served here after Saturday's races. |

BlogThoughts... Louisiana is practically (and sometimes literally) lower than sea level. This facility - which is easily 100 acres - is built on fill dirt. (It's actually a lot more complicated than that, but there's pilings and other, more innovative, ground stabilization "stuff" under all of it. And ripples still occasionally show up in the track paving.) More on squishy ground when we travel to Baton Rouge.
