Rain, Rain... Lazy Day

Hard to leave a place that
loves you this much. 😃
Monday, March 13…
Slow day. Left sunny Natchez around 10 and followed the Natchez Trace Parkway north for 30 miles or so. It’s a lovely, 2-lane highway bordered by woods and the occasional historic marker. The original trace was a forest trail created by game animals, followed & improved by Native Americans, and later used by early American traders, explorers and emigrants. It begins in Natchez, where the French established a trading company in 1714 and eventually took out the local “Nochi” tribes. (It’s really much more complicated, and sadder, than that – check out “History of Natchez, MS” on Wikipedia.) Anyway, the original trace and today’s parkway begin in Natchez and end in Nashville, 444 miles northeast.

Very green, very peaceful....
like having your own personal road.

We detoured to Vicksburg (turning point of the Civil War, following the Confederate defeat at Gettysburg) and checked in at the Ameristar RV Park & Casino. And then it rained… and rained. I ran a simple errand that ended up taking an hour (a bank, the post office, and one wrong turn were involved). Neither of us could get up any enthusiasm for tourism (and we’re not casino folks), but we do have a plan for tomorrow, when it’s supposed to be sunny.

BlogThoughts... We do eat well. Last night we had grilled lamb chops, crispy seasoned grilled potatoes (from leftover bakers), and fresh asparagus ($1.67/lb). Today, after the rain had finally stopped, I wandered the RV park 'til I found a fellow walking a large dog and offered him the bones. The owner was appreciative, and Im sure the dog will be happy.

(We miss our dog.)
