Wednesday, April 5…
Uneventful trip home (yea!). No sign of my
scurrying cockroach (but we laid out traps just in case). This morning was a
major laundry trip. I hadn’t taken my debit card to Cuba and it wasn’t back in
my wallet yet, so when I needed extra drying time, I ended up scraping together
all the loose change I could find and trading it for a couple quarters at the 7-Eleven
across the street. By early afternoon we were on the road to
Orlando (our only out-of-state child works for Disney so this was a good opportunity to visit him). Ibises frequented the campsites.
Joseph (who originally danced for Disney; now,
at 40+ he’s in management) had tickets for the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue (Pioneer
Hall, Fort Wilderness). Western campfire fare (chicken & ribs,
cornbread…) and really good strawberry shortcake for dessert). The show was
totally hokey, but wonderfully done and very audience-interactive. Four
audience members (including a little fellow who couldn’t have been more than 5
or 6) were actively involved - costumed, with small speaking or singing/dancing roles
– in the final number. (My guess is that the Disney performers are scouting these
folks out as they (the cast) move through the crowd during earlier songs.) Great
fun!
BlogThoughts... 1. I forgot to mention Cuba's "people's taxi," which Greg and Yasiel took to the college. It's a ride-share system, much cheaper but much slower. You stick your arm out with fingers extended to show how many seats you need. If a driver has room and wants another fare, he'll pull over. if he's going towards your destination, you've got a ride and the price is split w/ whoever's already in the vehicle. Otherwise, you're still on the curb hailing.

Later in the show, each table gets a washboard to "play." (I didn't take pics that night.) |
2. Disney is amazing.
