Friday... Good-bye Day

Friday, June 9…
Most of our morning was taken up w/ one of those tiresome timeshare meetings, but before noon we were packed, checked out (suitcase being held) and on a (new) subway to High Line Park – a no longer used el platform that's been turned into a pedestrian walkway. We wandered about a half mile of it, then came back down to street level and looked for a likely lunch spot. Nothing screamed at us, so we checked online for the nearest Shake Shack (our niece's recommendation), which happened to be very near Times Square – another landmark we can check off! Back on the subway for a one-stop ride to what turns out to be part of the Theatre District. Lion King and Beautiful are playing right here, and I’m wondering which shows our daughter Lisha and granddaughter Taylor will see when they visit in a couple weeks. (Their trip is all about the shows.) We note the ball-dropping corner, then re-orient ourselves relevant to Shake Shack. (We have done a great deal of re-orienting these few days. A compass would have come in handy.)

New construction near High Line Park.
Today it's just another corner.

Mmm Mmm good.

Shake Shack operates like Five Guys, but both the burgers and fries are much better. They also have really good milk shakes! (Finding a seat is the biggest problem - I'm surprised to see that empty chair in the picture. It wasn't empty for long.) Greg raved about the burger

Tummies full, we boarded our last subway and returned to the hotel. We still had plenty of time, and we had a good travel chat with some folks waiting to check in. Greg ducked into Gourmet45 one last time and got a sandwich for the ride home. Then we walked back to Penn Station. By now it's late afternoon - Friday afternoon - and the platforms are busier by the moment. Track numbers are posted as trains pull in, and as each post appears we see a large group of folks scurry away from the reader board. Later we were grateful to know the system b/c there's both east and west tracks but no signs showing which side is which. (Again, a compass would be helpful, tho it might not work underground.) Our train was late, but when the track number did appear we just followed the crowd to the correct "9".

Rising moon over the marina at the Groton Elks Club. Home for tonight.
