Hyannis and...

Friday, June 2…
"Come on in...
Today’s plan is Hyannis (town, not Kennedy compound), lunch, and then south to the NOAA aquarium in Woods Hole (wonder what the origin of that name is). Nice drive to Hyannis, though traffic was quite heavy through the town. Managed to find free street parking not too far from the JFK Museum. As we walked, I was impressed with the architecture of this Federated Church (“the friendly church” says their website).

The JFK Presidential Library is in Boston, but this is a lovely compilation of Kennedy family history and JFK's personal/political life. I kept reading and re-reading, studying photos of the clan at various ages and somehow feeling the pressures as well as the perks of growing up in such a prominent and public family. (I forgot to take any pictures, so these are stolen. The two family shots are part of the museum's collection.)

Much like yesterday, after this we thought we'd find a nice lunch spot near the water. An unexpected one-way street turned us back, and Greg got so tired of waiting in slow traffic that we decided just to head south to the aquarium and find lunch along the way. About 5 minutes out of town, we were passing your typical suburban mall when Greg spotted a Trader Joe's sign and abruptly turned in. I gently mentioned that we already have 2 cases of $2 Chuck in the MH, and he assured me there were other things we needed to stock up on. Fifteen minutes later we're out the door with salami, dried cranberries, and a case of wine.  I noticed this photo op as we exited and asked a friendly looking person to snap the shot. It somehow seemed very appropriate.

So, to wrap up the day's story, we continue slog south on Rte 28, not seeing any restaurants. After 10 or 15 minutes, Greg says, "Have we crossed 130 yet?" "No, why?"  "I thought it might be easier to detour home first and grab something to eat." "Sure. That's fine." About 30 seconds later we come to 130 and turn. Detour was not what he actually meant, and I knew it, but it's no fun sightseeing w/ someone who doesn't want to be there.
